What is the PNG file format?
The PNG file format is a file format used to store bitmap graphics, it was created in 1995 by an employee of CompuServe named Timothy Miller.
The PNG format is a lossless compression image file format similar to JPEG and GIF. It was created to replace the lossless image formats such as GIF and TIFF because they were not able to support transparency. The PNG format uses a compression algorithm known as DEFLATE which provides lossless compression with optimum use of space for storing images.
The PNG format also supports animations and multiple transparency layers. An important feature of this format is that it supports full-color 24-bit images (8 bits per channel).
What is the ICO file format?
In the ICO format, the data is stored in plain-text ASCII. The file is divided into a header and a body. The header contains information that describes the file, such as its size and the name of the file. After the header comes the body of the file, which contains information about what data is contained within it.
The ICO format allows for a variety of different types of data to be stored in it, including images and text. It also supports different color depths for each pixel (1-bit, 4-bit, 8-bit). The total number of colors available depends on how many bits are used per pixel. For example, 1-bit results in two colors (black or white), while 8-bit results in 256 colors.
To convert your images from PNG file format to ICO file format, you can use a web-based tool. The process is easy and straightforward.
Step 1: Go to the online conversion tool website, click on "Convert" button.
Step 2: Upload your image file (PNG format)
Step 3: Select the required image size and background color, if any.
Step 4: Click on "Convert" button to start converting your PNG files into ICO files.
Converting a PNG image to ICO format is a relatively simple process. Since PNG images are transparent, you can use any graphics editor that supports transparency to convert the image. Many graphics editors, including Photoshop and PaintShop Pro, support transparency. The steps for this conversion process vary depending on which program you use.
Converting a PNG Image using a Desktop software
To convert your PNG image for Windows, follow these steps:
Open your graphics editor and choose File > Open. Browse to the location of your PNG file and select it. Click Open when you're done browsing.
Select the entire image by clicking on the first point in the upper-left corner and dragging your mouse cursor over every point until they all appear highlighted in blue or red (depending on the program). If you want to keep only part of the image, click on that part with your mouse cursor before proceeding to step 3 below.
Choose File > Save As or press Ctrl-Shift-S on your keyboard to open the Save As dialog box where you can type in a new filename if necessary and save it as an ICO file format icon file with Transparency checked off if desired; otherwise leave it unchecked if not desired
